Michele Turnquist is a 4th generation Austinite with Real Estate & Economic Development roots stretching back over a century. In fact, not long after the University of Texas celebrated its first graduating class, Michele’s family was helping develop the bustling new metropolis of late 19th Century Austin, including her great-great grandfather who was the Mayor of Austin in 1892. By 1893 the sixty-foot-high Austin Dam was completed just northwest of town. In 1895 dam-generated electricity began powering the four-year-old electric streetcar line and the city's new water and light systems. The dammed river formed a lake that became known as "Lake McDonald," for John McDonald, the mayor who had whipped up support for the project—attracted new residents and developers, while the waters of the lake itself drew those seeking respite from the Texas heat. Austin boomed in the mid-1890s, driven largely by land speculation. Thirty-one new 150-foot-high moonlight towers illuminated Austin at night and brought Riverboat Racing to Austin, and created the first Austin’s rowing team. Civic pride ran strong during those years.

  Michele’s husband, Steve Turnquist is an integral part of the business and is the broker of Turnquist Partners. Her daughter, Kathryn Scarborough Bechtol, 5th generation Austinite, is a leading luxury real estate agent in Austin. Together, the family’s Real Estate expertise has stood the test of time and is redefining Austin Real Estate Services.
